Johnson Controls Creates Inclusive Workplace in Cork

Global technology and industrial leader Johnson Controls has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to foster inclusivity within its Cork headquarters. The company has implemented a series of workplace modifications designed to champion neurodiversity and create a more welcoming environment for all employees.

Recognizing the unique needs of neurodiverse individuals, Johnson Controls established dedicated quiet zones within the office space. These areas feature specialized lighting, soundproofing, and sensory-friendly elements to provide a calming and focused atmosphere. Additionally, the company has introduced fidget tools and furniture with adjustable features to cater to diverse sensory preferences.

The initiative was spearheaded by the company’s Unlimited Business Resource Group, an employee-led group advocating for individuals with disabilities. Working closely with occupational therapists, the team carefully assessed the workplace and identified areas for improvement.

“By creating a more inclusive environment, we empower all employees to contribute their unique skills and perspectives,” said Karen Clay, Vice President of Talent Management and executive sponsor of the Unlimited BRG. “We are committed to fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported.”

Johnson Controls’ Cork headquarters serves as a model for other companies seeking to create more inclusive workspaces. By prioritizing the needs of neurodiverse employees, the company has demonstrated its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
