Carrier Takes Aim at Climate Change with Investment in Carbon-Reducing Cooling Technology

Carrier, a global leader in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions, is taking a significant step towards a greener future with a recent investment in Montana Technologies’ innovative AirJoule dehumidification and cooling technology. This investment signals Carrier’s commitment to tackling climate change by offering more sustainable options for its customers.

The AirJoule technology utilizes a self-regenerating pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process. This complex-sounding approach essentially captures water vapor and thermal energy from the air, requiring significantly less electricity compared to traditional air conditioning systems. This translates to a reduced carbon footprint and lower energy bills for end users.

“At Carrier, we are applying our industry-leading innovation to fight climate change through new energy-efficient product offerings and through lower emissions in our operations,” said Dave Gitlin, President & CEO of Carrier. “The AirJoule technology has the potential to be a game-changer in the HVAC industry, and we are excited to partner with Montana Technologies to bring this innovative solution to market.”

The investment includes $10 million in growth equity for Montana Technologies and exclusive rights to commercialize the AirJoule technology in North and South America for the next three years. This partnership highlights Carrier’s strategic approach to sustainability and its commitment to developing and offering environmentally friendly products.

The AirJoule technology could be revolutionary for various applications, including:

  • Commercial buildings: Reducing energy consumption and operating costs for businesses.
  • Data centers: Maintaining optimal cooling while minimizing environmental impact.
  • Residential homes: Offering homeowners a more sustainable and cost-effective way to cool their living spaces.

While still in the early stages of commercialization, the AirJoule technology holds immense promise for the future of sustainable cooling. Carrier’s investment in this innovative solution is a positive step towards a greener future for the HVAC industry and a testament to their commitment to environmental responsibility.
